ANSWERS:
TICKETS AND E-MAIL LIST: <Back to Top>
- How do I sign up for your e-mail list?
--> Use the menu at the top of the page to navigate to our E-mail List page where you will find complete directions.
- How do I buy a ticket?
--> Tickets go on sale about 3 weeks prior to the sail. When on sale you will see a Buy Now button on the Upcoming Events page. Click it to purchase 1 or more tickets. Tickets are refundable if notice is given 48 hrs before the sail.
- Can I buy more than 1 ticket at once?
--> Yes. After you click Buy Now you may change the quantity of tickets you purchase by clicking in the "Qty" box. Keep in mind we're not sailing the Star of India (but wouldn't that be fun!). Space is limited. If your group is larger than 8 people, please contact us before purchasing.
- Can I just show up on Saturday?
--> We would prefer that you buy a ticket online. We cannot guarantee a spot for walk-ups. If you do decide to come without a ticket and there is no room, feel free to sit on the dock of the bay and watch the tide roll away.
- I'm having trouble buying a ticket or signing up for your e-mail list.
--> Send us a note via our Contact Us page and let us know the problem. We will contact you to resolve the issue. Be sure to leave a valid e-mail address, or better yet a phone number.
SAILING: <Back to Top>
- Where do we meet and how do I get there?
--> Directions to the meeting location will be posted on the Upcoming Events page 3 days prior to the sail. Ticket holders will receive an e-mail with the directions.
- Do I need to bring a printed receipt or ticket?
--> No. When you buy a ticket online we receive an e-mail and we will have your name on our list. It's just like an E-ticket!
- Is there a minimum or maximum age?
--> The minimum age for a child is 7 years old. There is no maximum age, provided that you are physically able to hold on to a boat as it leans in the wind. Windy days require more effort than calm days! (They're more fun, too!) All passengers need a ticket, including children.
- What will the event be like?
--> We will meet up at the designated time and place. Find someone who looks like they know what they're doing and check in with them. You may be given a boat assignment at that time. If you have not printed and brought the required forms with you, we'll have some blank forms for you to fill out there. You will also need to sign a waiver for Seaforth, our boat rental place. After everyone is checked in and the paperwork is done we'll gather up for a short devotional and announcements. Boat skippers and boat assignments will be announced and we'll walk to the docks. We board our 22-foot Capris and sail for 2 hours. Upon our return we'll walk to the park for the barbeque (and bonfire for sunset sails).
<Back to Top>
- What kind of boat will we be sailing?
--> We rent 22-foot Capri keelboats from Seaforth. Each boat has a 6-person capacity, 5 passengers and 1 skipper. There is a small cabin on the boat for stowing gear and an emergency porta-potty. We recommend you use the restroom before boarding. The porta-potty is not so fun to use!
- Do I need any sailing experience?
--> No. We provide 1 able-bodied skipper for every boat. But because there are 2 sails on the boat, the skipper will need some help to trim the sails. You will be learning how to man the sails, and if you dare, you may even be able to take the helm.
- Do I need to know how to swim?
--> We try to keep all sailors inside the boat. We've never lost a sailor yet. Life jackets are provided for those who want to wear one.
- What should I bring with me?
--> Sunscreen, water, jacket and a blanket or chair for the BBQ afterwards. You may leave the blanket/chair in your car and pick it upon our return to the docks. Also, please bring the required forms filled out. If you have sailed with us before and have already filled them out within the past year, you do not need to fill them out again.
- Can my friends be on the same boat?
--> Yes. When you buy your ticket click the link that says "Names of friends to sail with." Write in the names of those with whom you want to sail and we'll do our best to accommodate. If you forgot to do so when you bought your ticket, send us an e-mail with the info. If you buy more than one ticket, you and your guests will be placed on the same boat. Remember, only 5 passengers per boat.
BARBEQUE: <Back to Top>
- When do we eat?
--> We eat shortly after our return from the 2-hour sail. Please plan accordingly and come with a little food in your belly so that you have strength to trim the sails, batten the hatches and paddle the boat if the wind dies (just kidding!).
- What kind of food will be served?
--> Typical BBQ food: burgers, hot dogs, chips, dessert. Sometimes our volunteer BBQ coordinators get energetic and do something different, but usually burgers hit the spot after a 2-hour sail!
- Do you serve vegetarian food?
--> We can provide veggie burgers upon request.
